NAE offers acoustics consulting from planning a Cinema Complex (Multiplex cinema), individual to art mini theater. With our experience in acoustic consulting, please feel free to consult with us when it comes to building a new complex or expanding your theater in an existing building.
- Construction/Planning stage: Confirming operation of basic acoustic performance
Our consultants will support the client by listening to their basic plan and then offer an acoustic plan according to their needs, develop and review the room's acoustic plan with the client.
If the acoustic plan has already been decided, then we will listen to your concept and ideas, discuss the specifications and designs, after that offer a specification that will be satisfactory based on the reliability of performance and the economical design. - Process of Construction: Working Diagram and Operation of checking Acoustic construction
Prior to the actual construction, we will check the engineering work and the working diagram of the buildings, facilities and the various construction documents. We will point out the blind spots and important points of the acoustic construction that normally cannot be noticed from the diagram only and then we will supervise you with the construction agency.
In addition, we will confirm the situation of the construction on site according to the process during the construction to secure the performance of sound insulation and advise a smooth method of construction. Furthermore, we will point out problems at the site and offer ways to resolve the problem in order to avoid unnecessary repairs. - The Final Stage of Completion: Acoustic measurement work at the time of completion
We will carry out the sound measurement at the time of completion and will confirm your satisfactory level of the acoustic performance that was originally targeted at the beginning of construction.
Although the renewal and improvement of the sound field of an existing theaters have limitations in security in term of the work, the structural condition and the actual expense, it would be possible to improve the sound field by using a countermeasure construction contributing to the sound effects, at the time of the exchange of the sound system and the screen.
■Example of a countermeasure of an audience seats' space
Controlling the length of the acoustic reverberation (time) and reducing the sound disorder (flutter echo) which occurs by the influence of the room shape are listed. In case of an existing theater, it needed an extensive amount of work to construct the sound absorption material and it was difficult to balance the acoustic and space designs from the viewpoint of the client. Therefore, we improved the acoustic field by attaching acoustic material such as cosmetic sound absorption panel, by taking the countermeasure, area size and design into consideration.
■Example of a brief and partial countermeasure
There is a method to narrow down the focus of improving an acoustic field around a screen. In this case, the detailed meeting with the screen mechanics and the supplier of cinema projector is needed. In back of the screen, we suggest adjustment of the loudspeaker position, manufacturing of loudspeaker cradle, reducing of chatter of screen frame, the sound field improvement panel creating a baffle effect for the screen frame and improving the sound field by utilizing the wall around the screen and ceiling. It is very important to screen the actual movie by using the measurement effect of the screened sound as well as using the measurement effect from the physical quantity data to make a listening comparison. The physical quantity data comes from the acoustic measurements taken before and after the sound field measurements and the results shared with the client.
If you are currently operating an existing theater and was wondering if it is possible to convert your acoustics into a Multiplex cinemas, however, you feel your theater is too old or (have a long history), it doesn't have the presence like a current Multiplex cinemas, we can offer a countermeasure to improve your sound field while preserving your present design.
